We are excited to unveil our second cohort of Changemakers grantee partners!
This cohort comprises 14 organizations in the Global Majority who are implementing gender transformative approaches to end child, early, forced marriages and unions. These partners operate in 9 new countries for our portfolio: Colombia, Egypt, Mozambique, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Nicaragua, Malawi, Brazil, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We also welcomed a new partner to our existing cohort in Bangladesh.
Over a period of nine months, our Changemakers Girls Council – 17 girls and young women from 10 countries – worked with our team to revise and expand our Changemakers grants criteria, choose priority contexts, and select the final cohort of grantee partners. These young leaders engaged deeply with the partners’ work and interviewed them to gain a better understanding of their contexts, their work, and how they include girls in their programs and decision-making processes.
The Council made strategic decisions to fund innovative work including teaching girls leadership and life skills through soccer; giving low-income families interest-free business loans to help them keep their daughters in school; using theatre to reduce gender-based violence in Indigenous communities; and raising awareness about the barriers to access to education for girls with disabilities.
We are excited to collaborate with these new partners as they hold the line and create transformative outcomes for girls and women in their communities.
