Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality
Founded in Egypt in 2019, Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality’s is a women-led national organization that seeks to build inclusive communities where girls and young women can thrive free from violence and harmful practices.
With their Changemakers grant the Foundation will build on their “Marriage with Mind, Not the Body” campaign, which they started in 2022 to advocate for legislation to criminalize child marriage in Egypt.
FROM EDRAAK FOUNDATION
We feel honored and deeply encouraged to have been selected for a Changemakers grant. This recognition validates the impact of our work and strengthens our commitment to driving meaningful change in our community. This recognition is not just about us-it’s about the countless girls whose voices have been silenced by harmful practices like child marriage.
This partnership with Girls First Fund means so much more than financial support; it represents trust, solidarity, and shared purpose. For Edraak, it is a powerful affirmation that our fight to end child and early marriage matters and that the voices of girls deserve to be heard. It gives us the strength and resources to scale our impact, deepen our advocacy, and create safe spaces where girls can dream without fear.
This Changemakers grant transforms our ability to create lasting impact. One key improvement is building organizational resilience, giving Edraak the resources to strengthen our core operations, invest in skilled staff, and develop sustainable strategies. This means we can move beyond project-based work and focus on long-term advocacy to end child/early marriage. It will allow us to innovate, amplify girls’ voices, and ensure that our programs reach more communities with deeper impact. In short, it will give us the stability and strength to dream bigger and deliver change that lasts.
We envision a future where girls are not defined by harmful traditions or limited by early marriage, but empowered to learn, lead, and live with dignity. We dream of families and communities that celebrate girls’ voices, invest in their education, and believe in their potential. For us, it’s about creating a world where equality is not a privilege, but a right, and where every girl can grow up safe, strong, and unstoppable.
