St. John’s Vocational Training Centre

Sri Lanka

Founded in 1996, the St. John’s Vocational Training Center is a male-led organization based out of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Through its flagship program, Ezhuval, St. John’s offers a comprehensive, residential program for young women and girls from working class/poor communities in Sri Lanka, providing a pathway and foundation for them to become first generation college students.

St. John’s will use its Changemakers grant to cover the central costs of its Ezhuval program. This includes paying staff salaries and hiring security for the residential program.

FROM ST. JOHN’S

We are excited about this partnership that supports the sustainability of our work. It will ensure predictable funding throughout the year, which will reduce the stress on our financial stream and help us to support our staff and activities in a much more coherent manner.

We are committed to a broader community with shared values and a commitment to support vulnerable young women from marginalized communities – a community that we can learn from.

We are working towards a reality were girls will direct their lives, escape poverty, commit to values of democratic citizenship, and become the leaders of their community and workplace, advocating for the rights of other women.
