Françoise Mukuku

Program Advisor – Democratic Republic of Congo

Mukuku helped to set up the Fund’s operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). As Program Advisor, she supports our grantee partners in the design and implementation of their own context-specific approaches, solutions, and innovations to address child marriage.

Mukuku has extensive experience as an independent consultant and activist addressing gender justice and human rights issues. She manages our DRC portfolio by monitoring grants through report reviews, site visits, meetings, capacity building support, facilitating learning, and ensuring that lessons learned globally are disseminated to grantees.

Previously, she was the Executive Director of Amazone Advisors, a Congolese firm based in Kinshasa, focused on using project management and communications to promote gender justice. In addition to working in her home country of the DRC, Mukuku has worked in the Great Lakes Region of Eastern, Central Africa and francophone Africa, including Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Benin, Togo, and Senegal. As an engaged activist, Mukuku has worked extensively on sexual rights including LGBTQ, abortion issues, and communication rights (online security, cyber-related violence against women, among others).

She holds an MA in gender studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and a BA in public law from the Université Protestante du Congo.
